The people and expertise behind SPICe Lab.
SPICe Lab is being developed as a focused, flexible initiative in isotope and trace-element geochemistry, with the goal of connecting advanced analytical expertise to real-world environmental, agricultural and resource questions in southern Chile and the South Pacific region.
Founder & Lead Consultant
Marcos Salas-Saavedra, PhD
Founder & Lead Consultant, SPICe Lab
Marcos is a geochemist with experience using isotopes and trace elements to understand Earth’s biogeochemical systems. He completed his PhD in Geochemistry at The University of Queensland (Australia) and later held a postdoctoral position at Princeton University.
He has worked with advanced analytical laboratories in Australia, the United States and Chile, collaborating with diverse research teams and applying geochemical tools to a wide range of environmental and geological questions.
Through SPICe Lab, he aims to bring this international experience in isotope geochemistry to support research, industry and public institutions across southern Chile and the broader South Pacific region.
Scientific advisors and collaborators
SPICe Lab is being built with the support of a growing network of colleagues, laboratories and institutions. As formal scientific advisors and external collaborators are confirmed, their profiles will be added here with their consent.
The intention is to maintain a flexible structure, where specific experts can be involved depending on the needs of each project, while SPICe Lab remains the main point of contact for coordination and interpretation.
If you are interested in collaborating with SPICe Lab or exploring a potential advisory role, you are welcome to get in touch.
